General Description of College:
Lindeth College provides 37 weeks a year courses for 46 residential and day students aged 16-25 with learning difficulties and disabilities. Owned by Craegmoor Healthcare the college is situated in a 7 acre rural site within the Lake District National Park. Provision is flexible and includes residential accommodation, 6 purpose built cottages, dedicated teaching areas and subject specific areas promoting practical and vocational skills.
The Curriculum:
Learners access education programmes offering learning opportunities throughout the 24 hour curriculum, seven days a week.
Students follow individually tailored programmes based on assessment of their needs and abilities.
The curriculum has three strands: Core Skills, Preparation for Living and Work and Vocational Work. Within this students participate in courses appropriate to their needs: Personal Development, Pathways to Independence and Preparation for Work. Community and leisure activities offer opportunities to extend skills during evenings and weekends. Courses are linked to external accreditation and the curriculum focuses on learning for living and work.
Communication skills are pivotal to our students' learning and students are encouraged to make choices and decisions and negotiate within their courses using appropriate communication strategies.
Students are supported with transition planning to ensure they move to appropriately provision post Lindeth College.
