General Description of College:
Arden College is owned by Craegmoor Healthcare and is situated in the seaside town of Southport. The college provides 38 week courses for students aged 16-25 years with learning difficulties and disabilities and who may exhibit behavioural, emotional and social problems. Both day and residential placements are offered.
Residential accommodation is provided in homes located within the town.
The college building provides dedicated teaching areas and subject specific areas to promote practical and vocational skills. In addition the college has a café and a hair salon located in the town centre.
The Curriculum:
Students are offered an inclusive and extended curriculum with individual programmes tailored to meet students’ needs.
The core areas include Communication Skills, Independent Living Skills, Preparation for Work, Vocational training and Creative Arts. All sessions are underpinned by the Essential Skills Programme. Excellent use is made of community facilities in Southport and the surrounding area.
Students have the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. Students also have opportunities to engage in social and leisure development programmes which encourage the development of self confidence and social skills.
Specialist Facilities:
Speech and language therapy advice and consultation to support the extended curriculum.
