General Description of College:
Northern Counties College is a Regional Specialist College based in close proximity to Newcastle city centre which enables learners to develop their independent living skills in a range of community based facilities. It currently has places for 60 learners.
Learners who attend the College are aged between 18 and 25 and have a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities including language and communication difficulties, physical disabilities and sensory impairments.
The Curriculum:
Learners are able to develop work skills through a range of realistic work environments including a business admin and conference facility, catering and café, arts and media and horticultural centre. All learners have the opportunity to develop their skills through an extensive work experience programme, as appropriate.
Learners gain knowledge and experience that can be recognised either through RARPA or Entry Level Certificates with Edexcel, NCFE and AQA.
Specialist Facilities:
The College Therapy Team is committed to an integrated approach and comprises speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
The College has a small fully accessible residence for learners who require a residential placement. All day learners have the opportunity to access a residential experience as part of their course.
