General Description of College:
Portland College is a vibrant national college (135 residential places plus day learners) for people with a wide range of disabilities and associated learning difficulties. Set in a beautiful 40 acre woodland campus in the heart of Sherwood Forest we have excellent public transport links and support learners to access community facilities in addition to a stimulating enrichment and sport programme on campus. 25 places are available in shared independence training flats.

The Curriculum:
We strive to develop every learner’s unimagined potential with a personalised programme that can include work experience and volunteering. The personal curriculum is underpinned by a broad range of accredited qualifications in independence, literacy, numeracy, sport, arts, business studies, computing, small animal care and horticulture. We deliver a specialised sensory curriculum for learners with more complex needs.

Specialist Facilities:
We integrate learning and physical care with specialist physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, speech and language, health, occupational therapy and guidance teams. We are nationally recognised for our work on alternative and augmentative communication. The College is fully equipped to support physical care needs (graded excellent by the Commission for Social Care Inspection).
