General Description of College:
Womaston is a 52 week, residential school located on the Welsh border, 20 miles north of Hereford and accommodates 16 students aged 14-19. Students have SLD, Challenging Behaviour and Autism. Womaston believes that an integrated and positive approach is needed to develop communication, a positive attitude to learning, positive self-image and increased independence. The school aims to provide flexibility within clear boundaries.
The Curriculum:
Learning is planned around the needs of each individual within the Womaston Curriculum which is linked to ‘the Essential Skills Curriculum’. There is an emphasis on learning in situ although learning skills and generalising them is important for some students. A key feature of curriculum delivery is the close integration of residential and educational staff. Accreditation is available through OCN and OCR.
Specialist Facilities:
Womaston retains SALT, Clinical Pschology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Sexuality Consultancy, Reflexology and Yoga on-site. Womaston employs a variety of approaches to develop communication including intensive interaction, PECS, signing and objects of reference. The facilities on-site include a café, pottery, multisensory room, studio, ICT suite and a woodwork room. The grounds are a developing resource in which there is a kitchen garden, sensory garden, adventure play areas and a football pitch.
