General Description of College:
Henshaws College campus is purpose-built and occupies a 12 acre greenfield site on the outskirts of Harrogate, with good road, rail and air links. Students access local shops and facilities within the local community.
The Curriculum:
Each student follows a structured, personalised programme with individual goals, and an emphasis on Independence and Employability Skills, together with literacy, numeracy, Communication and ICT, Mobility and Travel Training. Vocational Pathways include Art & Craft, Retail & Administration, Media, Horticulture and Hospitality and provide opportunities for work experience both on and off campus. Students explore options for their future adult life through our Transitions Programme.
Our multi-disciplinary team of staff, including Speech & Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Low Vision and Rehabilitation services, provides full support where needed. All staff have relevant and specialist qualifications and experience, ensuring that effective learning takes place throughout the extended curriculum.
Specialist Facilities:
The College is well resourced with specialist teaching areas and equipment which are fully accessible for all students. Residential provision includes en suite bedrooms, self-contained flats and a small, independent house, which provide opportunities to experience a variety of living options as independence skills develop. The Health, Fitness and Leisure Centre on campus comprises Hydrotherapy and Swimming Pools, Sports Hall, Sauna, Steam Room and Multi Gym.
