General Description of College:
Hinwick Hall College is part of the Education Directorate of Livability (the operating name of the merged charity Grooms-Shaftesbury). It is set in its own grounds on the Northamptonshire / Bedfordshire border where it offers education and care for up to 60 residential and day students.
The Curriculum:
We specialise in working with young people with a range of disabilities and associated learning, communication and emotional difficulties. Our teaching reflects this, catering to many different learning styles. The whole college is built around the concept of waking hour learning.
We offer three learning pathways, each tailored to different student need.
Pathway one students demonstrate an ability to either direct their learning or practically apply their skills in a variety of settings.
Pathway two students focus on the development of practical skills and learn through doing.
Pathway three students primarily focus on developing their emerging communication skills, and this underpins all elements of their curriculum.
Specialist Facilities:
We have qualified Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff on site. Our purpose-built physiotherapy department includes a pool where trained staff provide aquatic therapy. We employ our own full-time nursing staff.
