General Description of College:
Oakley College is a specialist day college on the Oxford/Buckinghamshire border providing a person-centred curriculum for young learners (16-25) who have complex learning difficulties and ASD. The college caters for 15 learners and is run by MacIntyre in partnership with Abingdon and Witney General FE College.
The Curriculum:
The central focus for curriculum planning, development and delivery is based on communication. Learning activities, facilitated by skilled support practitioners, are practical and vocational and enable learners to develop independence, leisure and life skills and take part in work experience. Literacy, numeracy and ICT are embedded throughout the curriculum which is delivered in college and the local community. Learners benefit from working in small groups supported by a high staff ratio.
Specialist Facilities:
All activities are designed to support the individual needs of learners with ASD and we look for multiple opportunities to enhance learners’ communication and social skills, including access to specialist therapies. Facilities at the College include an ICT suite, home style kitchen, practical workshops and horticultural area. The College works in partnership with a range of local providers to enhance access to vocational and leisure facilities including a strong partnership with a local farm.
