General Description of College:
Freeman College is based in a range of locations across Sheffield. In the city centre, students engage in metal trade crafts in a newly refurbished edge tool and cutlery factory: hand forging cutlery from copper and silver. We also offer pewterware, gilding and jewellery making.
The 100 seated Merlin Theatre and Tintagel House site hosts the communication, speech, language and drama curriculum, as well as community drama.
The ancient and sustainable technology curriculum takes place in Ecclesall Woods where students can forge iron with charcoal they have made themselves, and make tools in the green wood work shelter.
The Curriculum:
Students participate in individual programmes designed to enable them to make the most of their potential and work in small groups of two or three. Therapeutic craft and land work, communication word and number skills, art and drama, external courses, work experience in the community and vocational training are all available. The college offers challenging educational and cultural visits and activities.
Freeman College offers both day and residential placements.
Specialist Facilities:
Residential provision is in domestic scale households that are set in the local community. Students can progress from this highly structured provision to out- boarding and training flat placements, where students have the opportunity to take higher levels of responsibility for themselves. 52 week placements are available
