General Description of College:
Broughton House and College provides 52 week specialist residential education and care for 29 young people aged 16-30. The College exists to help young people with autism, who experience complex and severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviour. The College provides specialist education and 24 hour care and a range of clinical and therapeutic inputs.
The Curriculum:
We aim to clearly demonstrate the distance travelled for a student’s individual learning. We provide an environment and a range of opportunities within which students develop their self esteem, self-advocacy, self-direction, language development, economic activity, personal dignity, maturity and confidence. We follow the adult core curriculum framework for learning, focusing on communication, social interaction, daily living skills, and work and leisure time. We believe our students learn best in real settings; hence we view the community at large as a learning environment. Individual learning plans are at the core and these are delivered throughout the waking hours.
Specialist Facilities:
The college has an interactive sensory room, ICT suite, horticulture area and ILT teaching rooms. The college has access to a range of therapeutic and clinical services, with weekly multi-disciplinary meetings. Our high staff ratio ensures intensive individual student support.
