General Description of College:
Lufton is a welcoming vibrant college providing personal, social, vocational education, care and therapy to young people with a range of learning disabilities. Lufton offers 38 week residential and day student programmes and attracts students from all areas of the country. The College is situated in a rural campus location on the outskirts of Yeovil, within easy reach of local amenities. The College is served by established road and rail links to the South West, The South East, Central London, The Midlands and Wales.
The Curriculum:
Lufton recognises that learners have individual needs, abilities and goals and delivers flexible personalised learning and transition programmes tailored to meet those needs and goals. Individual programmes comprise a combination of Personal Care, Practical Life Skills, Vocational Training (or Pre-employability skills through social enterprise activities), Functional Skills, Individual Communication programmes, Community Access, Access to specialist therapies, Enrichment and Work Experience.
Specialist Facilities:
Learners have access within vocational sessions to a farm, campus shop and coffee shop training area on-site. The College also operates a professional coffee shop in a local village which is staffed by Lufton students and supported by staff. Specialist support at Lufton College includes: Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy, Psychology/Counselling and Educational Psychology.
