General Description of College:
New College Worcester is a national residential school and college for young people aged 11 to 19 who are blind or partially sighted. Every student receives an individual programme of education, mobility and Independent Living Skills to support them in reaching their full potential both in and outside the classroom.
The Curriculum:
We offer the full National Curriculum to visually impaired young people. We take students with a range of academic ability if we feel we are able to support them and meet their needs. We offer a wide range of GCSE subjects and over 24 AS and A2 subjects, to ensure a varied choice for our students. We also provide ASDAN courses for some students to give them the chance to develop and practice a range of skills and participate in activities outside of the classroom.
Specialist Facilities:
NCW occupies a green and specious site over looking the Malvern hills. Inside the college we are exceptionally well resourced, with: A range of dedicated subject classrooms , plus two ICT rooms, five science laboratories, seven music rooms and a music studio, drama and art studios, and a performance space A Learning Resource Centre, comprising a well-stocked library and ICT workspace with 10 computers for individual study A mobility department, equipped with a wide range of mobility aides from the traditional long cane to the computerised NOMAD mapping system An Independent Living Skills department, with a complete range of household equipment from cookers to washing machines A 25-metre swimming pool, a running track, a grass pitch for football, cricket and athletics, a gym and a multi-gym to provide for students’ physical education
