Enhancement of Learning Support (ELS) materials can be found on the Excellence Gateway. The resources were developed to provide better training for Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and people managing them in the lifelong learning sector.
Natspec and the Association of Colleges (AOC) also supported twenty colleges (General Further Education Colleges and Independent Specialist Colleges) to work with local practitioners, students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and learning support staff to produce learning materials and make recommendations for future training and development.
The new resources and materials were designed to improve the quality of learning support for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, whilst promoting their independence. The work recognised the importance of learning support staff as acknowledged in the green paper ‘Support and Aspiration’ and Ofsted survey ‘Progression post-16 for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities’.
More information can be found on the Excellence Gateway. The Enhancement of Learning Support Suite of Materials leaflet has details of the resources and how to use them in on-going development and quality improvement.
A learning support reference group met, as part of the project, to produce a newsletter, which can be downloaded here:
