Natspec Values Statement

Natspec members promote equality of opportunity and access to further education for all learners with learning difficulties and disabilities. Members are committed to learner centred approaches and to:

  • Providing safe but challenging adult settings, where young people with a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities can learn alongside their peers in an environment that promotes adult status and personal and social development
  • Providing specialist expertise in teaching, learning support, therapies and enabling technologies that is inter-disciplinary, leading edge, innovative and cost-effective
  • Delivering high quality, personalised learning programmes that enable learners to identify and achieve their aspirations
  • Developing skills for independent living, community participation and, where appropriate, employment
  • Developing communication skills and valuing the views of learners on all aspects of their learning programme and college experience
  • Establishing quality partnerships with parents and carers, other providers and local and national agencies to promote the best interests and positive outcomes for the individual
  • Providing high quality continuing professional development for staff in each college to ensure that they are skilled and up-to-date in meeting the complex needs of learners
  • Undertaking effective organisational self-assessment as part of a quality assurance system to promote continual improvement
